The Final Stretch

This week, the museum held another Science on Tap, the 21+ event where adults drink cocktails and learn about cool science. The theme was Hi-Tech, so there were activities based around virtual reality and artificial intelligence. The first activity I facilitated was called Google Cardboard. Essentially, guests drew a picture on special 360° graph paper, took a photograph of it on their phone, and used cardboard VR glasses to view their drawing in virtual reality! Don’t judge my artistic ability, but here is the picture I made of my bedroom:

Then, halfway through the night, I switched to an activity called Robo-Rainbows. Essentially, I taught guests how to construct a drawing-robot using plastic cups, tape, markers, batteries, a motor, and a hot glue stick.

The other exciting thing that happened this week was that I tested out one of the Studio Surprises that I wrote a couple of weeks ago. My new demo was a craft where the kids could design their own cattle brand. First, I taught a little about the history of ranching and cattle herding, and then gave examples of common brand symbols. Next, the guests created their own design, cut it out of cardstock, and wrapped it in tin foil to look like metal. Unfortunately, there was not an extensive amount of kids that wanted to participate, but the ones that did were super interested, and that is all that mattered to me!

Even though I have already completed all my hours, my last day at my internship is not until Wednesday. I decided to stay just a little while longer because I have loved this job so much and I am not quite ready to leave. However, although I will be saying goodbye to the coworkers I have grown to love, I am ready to make the most of my last couple of days!
